Pride 2006 Parade - June 10, 2006 : June 10, 2006 - Washington City Paper participated for the first time in the Capital Pride Parade. Our marketing events committee formed a Pride subcommittee to handle the theme, decoration and implementation of our float. We chose to promote Homobowl , our gay and lesbian Matches party (scheduled for July 6 at Strike Bethesda - photos to follow!). The Pride committee did a fantastic job with the decorations. We cut out stencils of bowling balls and pins and stuck them all over Account Executive Chris Coxen's pickup truck.I drove the City Paper van, Kim Dorn drove the float, and we had Kelly Manion, Elyssa, and Matt Hollis in bowling ball and pin costumes (everyone else was wearing bowling shirts), with Publisher Amy Austin throwing out City Paper lanyards, ring pops, candy necklaces. Trey Graham, City Paper theatre critic, was in the back of the pickup truck throwing lanyards. Mela Boyer, City Paper "About Last Night..." blogger, was throwing condoms with her logo and the City Paper web address on them. Classifieds Manager Tina Schildgen and Sheila Reid were riding Tina's motorcycle and throwing out goodies too. We greatly underestimated how quickly we'd go through the candy, lanyards and condoms, so Amy ducked out of the parade, ran into CVS to replenish our stock with more bags of lollipops, and caught back up with our float.We all had a great time, and a lot of fun! We received tons of cheers from the crowd as we went by, and it was nice to be there to support another part of our community.

Homobowl 2006 at Strike Bethesda - July 6, 2006 : Homobowl 2006 was held on Thursday, July 6 at Strike Bethesda. Homobowl is Washington City Paper's gay and lesbian bowling night that is held each year as a Matches event. This year, we had more than 100 people show up for a night of bowling, drinks and snacks, and gave away more than $1,000 in door prizes, as well as trophies for "Most Graceful Gutterball," "Best Bowling Shirt," "Highest Score," "Keep on Bowling (best attitude)," and "Best Bowling Style." Individual photos of people bowling, and some group shots are part of this gallery, as well as photos of the City Paper staff before and after the party.
